A Toronto-based mp3 blog. I really suck with slogans and titles. As you can see the title of this blog sucks but I hope you’ll ignore it and just enjoy our posts!

International Graduate University
28 June 2007, Allan @ 12:02 am

I love sampling music any time and I always have an open ear to music regardless to what it is because you never know. It has led me to liking a lot of different indie bands that some have never heard of. Anyway, Dan Fruchter (aka Hugo) who writes as well for Bluebird Banter has similar musical interests but he also has been doing some gigs recently for his band International Graduate University.

They currently have two songs available on their myspace page and a song by them that I’m digging is “Park Slope Bowl” which I’ve included below for a listen. Their other song they have available “Right Wing Love Song” and the aforementioned song are both available for download on their myspace so if you like what you hear visit their page!

Park Slope Bowl has very catchy intro and guitar tuning that feels rather soothing. This song is low key and I generally liked the feeling I got out of it. I’d like to see some lyrics posted somewhere that people can find and really appreciate the art work even more so. I get a lot of hits from people looking up Vampire Weekend and I am sure it would be helpful to have it somewhere online for International Graduate University.

Don’t forgot to listen and visit their myspace for more songs!

The Long Blondes: Someone To Drive You Home Reivew
12 June 2007, Allan @ 1:38 am

The Long Blondes were here tonight at Lee’s Palace and I probably would have tried to see them if it wasn’t for the fact that I am not 19 yet and most of these cheap concerts happen to be 19+ so I have to wait another month but who knows when the Long Blondes will be back.

The Long Blondes are from Sheffield, England and is an indie pop band that I just decided to download (and looking to buy) their album Someone To Drive You Home which had been released last week in North America.

It’s weird just downloading something just for the sake of it but the second I put on this album I loved it. Most of the songs are written by guitarist Dorian Cox but song by Kate Jackson who almost looks like Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs but who I think sings much better. The album was produced by the bassist of Pulp who I really like. This album has been addictive from top to bottom the second I put it to my ear. My favourite song by far Once and Never Again and I feel like passing it along to my friends.

I really hope this album does really well because it’s very good but I am sure not many people my age have heard of them before. This album gets a 5 out of 5 because it’s one of those you pick up and can’t put down and it’s worth the money to buy which you can’t say that about a lot of album. I give this a 5 out of 5.

LCD Soundsystem Sounds of Silver Review
1 June 2007, Allan @ 3:29 am

LCD Soundsystem is a project by James Murphy. I would have to say this is more a dance music with a rock feel to it like Fat Boy Slim and The Chemical Brothers. Sound of Silver was released on March 12 to critical acclaim reaching scores of 90 on Metacritic it has since cooled down to 86.

It has taken me so long to do a review for this album simply because I didn’t really like it all that much. It’s dance music but without a something I want to dance to. The songs are okay but nothing special. Most of the songs are 7 to 8 minutes long with just random beats but nothing special that would have me addicted. The songs aren’t entirely garbage but I didn’t really like it. It’s okay music but not really deserving on super praise like The Arcade Fire does I think at least to my style. I am giving them a 3 out of 5 because it is still decent not terrible but I don’t see myself listening to LCD Soundsystem in the future. If any of you disagree kindly leave a comment ;).

Not the best on the album but I can probably bear to listen to that more then others.
