A Toronto-based mp3 blog. I really suck with slogans and titles. As you can see the title of this blog sucks but I hope you’ll ignore it and just enjoy the music we like

The Details: Draw A Distance, Draw A Border Review
16 May 2008, Allan @ 5:00 pm

As “great” as the Toronto indie scene is, we’ve got tons of great artists across the homeland. The Details are from the Peg a place I’d like to visit (no particular reason…despite what they say).

I wanted to review their album “Draw A Distance, Draw A Border” after hearing only one track “The Height of Land”. At hindsight when picking up the album, I felt I might’ve been premature in requesting an album promo from Killbeat Music. Time was just all I needed and eventually the album became quite decent actually.

Their best moments are when the Details are at their loudest either when Joe Platt is singing at the top of his lungs or some cool guitaring. When they do work on the details they have a chance to make something special…in the quiet moments it gives off more of the “boring” feeling rather then the relaxing feeling. I just don’t think they offer enough at other times I guess to be rewarded in the moments of silents…kind of comes of awkward. I guess I was disappointed in “I Asked What We Should Do. You Said “I Just Don’t Want To Think” as it had a great title but the song didn’t fulfill expectations.

Not a bad album but not a great on either. I definitely feel as if they have the potential to be pretty good but there isn’t much attention to detail as there’s nothing other then what meets the eye.

Rating: 3.25 out of 5.
